This is Ann and Martin in Bar Harbor Maine at a Civil War Monument which had engravings honoring Union war dead but which had a confederate soldier picture as a statue. In South Carolina there was a similar monument honoring Confederate war dead with a Union soldier as a statue. The two cities agreed to keep things as they were about 1880. Posted by Hello

Late August 2004 in Pennsylvania


Martin and Ann in Jim Thorpe Pennsylvania. This is the Henry Packer Mansion overlooking the town. Mr. Packer was a RR magnate. The house has, among other things, the world's only functioning orchestral (like a player piano but with 5 instruments) from the 19th century. Posted by Hello
